A Collaborative Approach of Mathematical and Simulation Models to Optimizing Quick Response Production Systems

Abstract The present paper deals with the optimization of inventory networks which potentially exist in any supply chains. After introducing the theory of quick response production, we discuss the methodology to optimize the inventory levels of a production/inventory system considering multiple semifinished and finished products by a collaborative use of mathematical and simulation models. A numerical example treating the complicated production situation is shown to demonstrate the effectiveness of the present approach. Lastly we describe the applicability of the approach to optimizing the inventory levels in a modern distribution process known as distribution processing.
